Sorry I haven't posted my "Stretching a Dollar" segments this week. I have a sick boy at home. His fever has been fluctuating from 99.5 - 104.2! The Doctor thinks I should have taken him straight to the ER to be tested for flu, but my son has a VERY sensitive gag reflex and will vomit on command. I'm not entirely confident in our thermometers either. Right after I got off the phone with the doctor his temp was 103.3 and not the 104.2 that I had read just moments before. So off I headed to Walgreens and bought a new (better I hope!) thermometer along with more Tylenol and Motrin, and popsicles. I've been alternating between the 2 meds all day and evening and the temp hasn't broken yet. Although currently we are in a much safer range of 101.5 - 102.0. I'm going to try and wake up through the night to monitor his fever and continue our regiment of meds. I hope this breaks soon!
I just hate the idea of submitting my son to unnecessary lab work for the swine flu epidemic when it hasn't even hit our state yet. My son hasn't been anywhere that I would feel puts him at risk either. Plus, when you have the flu don't you generally vomit a lot? Maybe I'm wrong here but I don't think that vomiting immediately after taking medicine (that he hates by the way) is reason enough to rush to the ER. I've decided if his fever continues to climb tomorrow I will take him in. I've read plenty on the forums and boards that many mothers & pediatricians alike will recommend the wait and see approach with over the counter medicine for the first 24-48 hours. Tomorrow morning will be 24 hours and I'll take it from there!
So please keep our son in your thoughts and prayers! I'm exhausted (being 30 weeks pregnant doesn't help either!) and I'm really hoping for a few hours of straight sleep tonight. I hope Camden gets some rest. I'll keep you all posted!
